Transgender community

Transgender is an ‘umbrella term’ used to describe individuals and groups of people who do not conform to society's view of being male or female. It includes: transsexuals (man to woman and woman to man), transvestites, intersex and androgynous people.

We offer emotional and practical support, information and advocacy for lesbian and bisexual women and all members of the transgender community aged 12 and over, who have experienced gender based violence. This is through our helpline and face-to-face support.

Trans men and non-binary trans people will be provided with specially tailored individual services with respect to their identities. Trans women will be provided with the same quality of individual and group support as other women.

We understand that transgender people experience negative attitudes in society and prejudice. All our support workers have had transgender awareness raising training from the Scottish Transgender Alliance.
